A Glimpse in My Palettes

Here’s a look into my current makeup palettes. I prefer depotted shades because 1) Palettes take up less room 2) I remember to use all the shades because they’re there in plain view and 3) I don’t have to rummage through a whole drawer looking for a specific shade. I do love special packaging, but I will ruin it to put that shade in a palette if I know it’s a keeper forever.

One thing I love about Japanese or Japanese inspired brands is that they make depotting so easy. They have holes in the packaging and easy light glue. You can just pop the pan out by poking them through the hole in the back. You don’t have to ruin the package depotting it and then you can put it back in the case if you want to in the future. Everyone else should learn from this and make their items easy to depot. It’s the way makeup has been going for years, even with the non pro makeup artists.

I wasn’t originally going to list the shades, but I figure I’ll get asked so might as well. I’ll do left to right, top row to bottom row. Yes I know it’s a lot of browns and nudes and might be boring for those color adventurers. I love browns/nudes in every shape and form.

Makeup Geek Duochrome Highlighter Lit & Psychedelic: Review & Swatches

I’ve tried a few eyeshadows so far by Makeup Geek. I’m drawn to their duochrome products in general. I grabbed two of the new Duochrome Highlighters: Lit and Psychedelic. Per Makeup Geek: “Come to the light and illuminate your most-loved features with Makeup Geek Highlighters! The super-smooth and incredibly pigmented formula provides a reflective luminosity that ranges from subtle to extreme—use a light hand for a natural, lit-from-within glow or pack it on for an intense, strobed effect. Available in seven signature shades and six duochrome shades that can be applied to both the face and body.”

These come in a square metallic finish case, have a generous size pan with a cool geometric design for $20. The base is matte black, the lid is a dark metallic steel. The lid does show many fingerprints for those who hate that. The powder has a moisturizing, buttery soft texture.

Lit is described as “a translucent base with peachy-pink duochrome reflects and luminous finish. This shade is best suited for fair skin tones.” Lit has a golden cream colored base with a peachy pink shimmer. It’s a shimmery light peachy pink shift from a golden cream colored base. It’s a pearly finish, nothing too shimmery or frosty. It’s subtle and not glittery at all. It is best suited for light skin tones. It was a touch light for me and I’m not a full medium skin tone.

Psychedelic is described as “a peach base with pink duochrome reflects and luminous finish. This shade is best suited for medium skin tones.” This one has a strong peachy iridescent shift in a clear base. It’s a fiery peachy pink glow. I love it. I think this could work on more than just medium skin tones.

Both shades have a peachy pink shimmery shift to them. Psychedelic is a stronger brighter glow. Lit is lighter, has a golden tone to it, as well as more opaque. Lit almost feels a bit chalky or powdery on. That’s what made it feel too light for my skin tone compared to Psychedelic. Psychedelic is sheerer, yet more powerful in it’s glow. I much prefer Psychedelic. If you’re lighter and want a less peachy shimmer go for Lit. If you’re darker or want a fiery peachy glow versus shimmer go for Psychedelic. I would try other shades for sure, the formula was buttery soft and smooth.
